Assetera Joins the Eurøpe Consortium

The Austrian MiFID II-regulated platform for the distribution of tokenized securities and real-world assets joins issuers, exchanges, and infrastructure providers working to expand the use of regulated euro stablecoins on-chain, where the US dollar accounts for about 99% of total market value.

VIENNA, Austria, 5 October

Assetera, the EU/EEA regulated platform for the distribution of tokenized securities, has joined the Eurøpe Consortium, an industry coalition comprising stablecoin issuance, crypto-assets exchanges, custody solutions, and blockchain ecosystems, launched to increase the use of the euro in on-chain finance.

Euro assets, dollar money

Bonds issued by European companies are usually priced in euros and are sold to investors holding their savings in euros. However, once those bonds trade on chain, the money on the other side of the trade is most often a dollar stablecoin. According to the European Central Bank, around 99% of stablecoin market value is denominated in US dollars, while euro stablecoins account for less than 1%.

For the investor, that means a currency transaction which has no relation to the underlying asset they purchased. For the market, it means creating euro-based instruments on a dollar settlement basis.

MiCAR has given the EU a legal framework for regulated euro e-money tokens. The next challenge is making them practical at scale: integrating them into wallets, trading venues and settlement infrastructure, and building sufficient liquidity for professional use. No single company can create that ecosystem alone.

What Assetera brings

The consortium's first program is built around EURØP, a euro e-money token issued under MiCAR by Schuman Financial, an electronic money institution authorized by the ACPR in France. EURØP is live on Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, Solana, the XRP Ledger, and Plasma. Participants plan to coordinate access and distribution, infrastructure and integrations, practical use cases, and market education.

Assetera brings concrete use cases from the tokenized securities market to the Consortium. In particular, the company sees strong potential for regulated euro stablecoins as a settlement pair for the distribution and secondary trading of tokenized securities. Assetera contributes its experience in onboarding investors, performing eligibility checks, distributing tokenized financial instruments, and providing secondary-market access under its Austrian MiFID II license.

Other participants include Schuman Financial, BLOX, Coinhouse, Coinmerce, DFNS, etoro, LCX, RockawayX, SwissBorg, and XRPL Commons. Each organization keeps responsibility for its own commercial, technical, and regulatory decisions.

"When a European company tokenizes a bond, it's priced in euros and sold to people who think in euros. Then it goes on-chain, and the money on the other side of the trade is usually dollars. That's an odd result for a market Europe has spent years regulating. Changing it takes issuers, platforms, and infrastructure providers to move at the same time, which is why we joined. At Assetera, we see a very practical use case: regulated euro stablecoins as the settlement pair for the distribution and secondary trading of tokenized securities."

Thomas Labenbacher, Chief Executive Officer, Assetera‍‍
"The EU established a regulatory framework for euro-denominated stablecoins, but regulation alone does not create a functioning market. Adoption requires issuers, distribution platforms, infrastructure providers and broader financial and blockchain ecosystems to work together. The Eurøpe Consortium brings European financial innovators together to help ensure that the euro plays a meaningful role as global financial activity moves onchain."
